The study then explores al-Mu'tasim's reliance on Turkish military forces, the establishment of Samarra, and the gradual expansion of Turkish political and military authority. The book also analyzes the responses of Abbasid caliphs to this growing influence, particularly the Turkish role in appointing and removing caliphs, and the conflicts that resulted from their intervention in the affairs of the caliphate.
