Introduction:
Bullying is one of the most prominent behavioral phenomena studied by researchers in psychological and educational sciences for decades across global educational systems, including Algerian schools. Bullying represents a form of dominance exercised by a child or group of children over peers or teachers, leading to psychological problems such as shyness and withdrawal, cognitive challenges like difficulty in attention and memory, and educational issues such as poor understanding of lessons and school failure.
Bullying may also provoke violent reactions, disrupting social relationships and contaminating the school climate. According to a UNESCO report published in November 2020, one-third of students globally experience bullying or violence at least once a month, one in ten faces cyberbullying, and one in five avoids school due to bullying.
In Algeria, a 2016 National Education Observatory study found that bullying and violence behavior occurs in 52% of middle school students, 35% in primary school, and 13% in secondary school. Among these, 75% of violence cases are emotional, and 25% are physical, with 52% of incidents occurring in middle schools.
Given these alarming statistics, it is essential to conduct in-depth field studies to understand the cultural, social, and educational roots of bullying behavior, its effects on a child's personality, and effective ways to confront and manage it. This workshop will address the concept of bullying, its indicators, types, dimensions, and effects on a child's personality.
