Introduction:
This workshop seeks to establish a clear and practical framework for professional ethics in academic supervision. It begins with formulating a charter that regulates the relationship between supervisor and student, setting standards of conduct and communication protocols. The workshop details the supervisor’s responsibilities in planning, monitoring, providing constructive feedback, and documenting research progress to ensure quality outcomes. It also outlines the rights of the student and the limits of the supervisor’s role with respect to academic independence, intellectual property, and data management—safeguarding fairness and balance in responsibilities.
In addition, the workshop addresses recurring ethical dilemmas such as plagiarism, authorship order in scholarly outputs, and the pressures of time and funding, presented through case scenarios and practical recommendations. The ultimate aim is to enable participants to adopt sound supervisory practices and to foster a safe, fair, and academically enriching research environment.
